Braised Short Ribs with Hoisen

Photo: David Lebovitz

While the weather is still chilly, comfort foods like short ribs are real crowd pleasers. I found this recipe on the David Lebovitz blog. I made it with horseradish mashed potatoes and sauteed greens. The link below includes the recipe, complete with step by step photos.

David Lebovitz is a Chez Panisse alum, currently residing in Paris. His dessert cookbooks are great, and funny to boot. We love the blog, too.

Happy Weekend

Lemon Thyme Daiquiri
White Rum, Muddled Lemon Thyme, Housemade Lime Syrup, Lime Juice

The Tar Pit.
My girls and I spent cocktail hour at Mark Peel's (Campanile) new watering hole. Feels like a '40s supper club and lots of fun. We didn't have the capacity to drink our way around the menu, but there were some sophisticated and unique libations waiting for exploration.

http://7x7.com/sf-big-eat-2010

Hubby & I love S.F. and we have tried many restaurants on this list.
Here's some of our comments.

Zuni: A classic. It's an old favorite that is always dependable
Range: Very creative drinks, but the food is hit & miss
Slanted Door: I can't understand their popularity. The food is mediocre
Tartine Bakery: Last meal before dying
Delfina: We could eat there everyday
Michael Mina: Too stuffy
Perbacco: On our list, heard great things
Pizzeria Delfina: Great food & wine. Love the starters
Bix: Fun for drinks & snacks. Great location
Bi-Rite Ice Cream: See Tartine remarks
Spruce: When you're feeling grown up
Nopa: Fun atmosphere with good food
Nopalita: Best carnitas
A16: Yuppie, crowded and over-rated
Quince: Maybe the best food and service in the city.
Dosa: Updated Indian food. Very good
Incanto: Under-rated & great
Absinthe: Best fries and drinks
Betelnut: Good, but far from the top of the list
Majitas: Fun Mexican food at the ferry building
Foreign Cinema: Great
Tadich Grill: Very Musso & Franks
Swan Oyster Depot: Fresh shellfish in a funky setting
Blue Bottle Cafe: The very best coffee
